… is safer and stronger

How do we redress the high perceptions of crime and anti-social behaviour, when the statistics show actual crime and ASB to be low?

  1. I’m not entirely convinced that the disparity between reported and perceived crime/ASB means that reported crime is ‘real’ and perceived crime ‘fictional’. I see lots of criminal activity and ASB that I wouldn’t report a) because I don’t have the time, b) because by the time it had been reported, there would be no chance of doing anything about it and c)the police don’t seem to have the same priorities that I do. More police/CSOs on the streets and prepared to do something about ‘minor’ offences (spitting, littering, drunkenness, aggessive driving) would make everyone more aware of acceptable standards of behaviour in public and give many members of the public the confidence that insistence on decent behaviour is not itself ‘antisocial’.
